A lost book so wonderful it is like finding buried treasure.
"On Sarpy Creek" is a deeply moving family saga about a small Montana farming community in the decade after World War I. Many readers consider it a small masterpiece, yet this book was "lost" for decades before being recently republished.
The simple, unadorned style and strong story make "On Sarpy Creek" a true page-turner about life and love.

It's a terrific book, maybe the best Montana novel I've ever read, and you bringing it back is just a real public service." —From an anonymous phone call to the publisher soon after this edition was published.

What a strange novel. I read this based on a recommendation from a friend who considered it a minor masterpiece. I did not find it so. Interesting way of presenting the story using language peculiar to a time and place. Character development less than compelling and the plot jumps from character to another. It is no surprise to me that the author only ever wrote this one novel.Product details

A wonderful tale of life and the hardships of making a living off the land. This book covers human emotions at their core…the good and the bad that lie within us all. ad
I read this recently -purchased book years ago and it was just great to get it on my to read again. It often seemed as though I was reading it for the first time but found it was the same page-turner that I remembered from my youth!
So good. It one of those stories about people that has their stories stay with you for awhile. I highly recommend this book
I really enjoyed this book. It kept me interested the whole way through. I got involved with the characters and couldn't wait to see how their lives would evolve. Very touching, sometimes sad, a good picture of life back-in-the-day.
